taratruly 2016

Thank you taratruly.wordpress.com for being a great companion all year.  You’ve allowed me to share, sometimes unload, journal, share pictures and keep a little of my life down on paper.  I am proud of myself for fulfilling a goal and blogging 365 days this year.  “Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book.  Write a good one.”    New goal – blog even better .

A Hangar on Tudor?

Rhea is without a car today because yesterday I borrowed it and we won’t get it back until tomorrow.    How can a person drive on a wire just the wrong way that it embeds itself too close to the wall of the tire and ruins it?  How can a person drive on a main road in Anchorage and just happen to run over a hangar-like piece of wire when the road seemed clear and debris free?   I guess I do know how because I did it and I am sorry Rhea that you are “car less” because of me.

Cousins

Cousins come and cousins go.  I was telling someone the other day that forty years ago when I would visit my grandparents it was usually after I hadn’t seen them for a year or so.  There may have been a few pictures exchanged but when we would go pick them up at the train station I had changed so much and they had too.   These days we Face Time!  The cousins can Face Time and remember each other.  They can see Grammie’s slide and me giving Tank a bone.  Hinckley can smile at “Mama KyKy” and Blaze can say “Hatcher!!.  Paige can smile and melt our hearts and Easton can tell me about school.  Brecken can watch Uncle Poopy make funny faces and . . . the cousins can grow up actually knowing and remembering each other.  Let’s make it a goal to Face Time more.

Where??

Wasn’t it on the Fox and the Hound where the hound says, “Which way did he go George, which way did he go?”   We have been contemplating that question around here lately because in 2016 we are wondering where all our kids will go.  Devin leaves for training in Oklahoma for the 24th of February class.  He will be gone three months and will find out close to graduation where they will go?   Sam will graduate in April, take a few more classes and land a job as a mechanical engineer somewhere back east close to some medical schools he is interested in.  Where will they go?? David and Micah will begin to apply to law schools in the spring and we wonder, which part of the country will they go??  I think in May or June we may have a few answers for the hound.

“Come Quick!”

The fudge plate came from Grandma Styers.  It was bestowed to Kyla upon her completion of “Mary Jo’s Famous Fudge Training.”  There are very few that have completed the course but she has upon promptings from her dad that the fudge making tradition carry on.  Even though she has been tenderly plagued with morning sickness her culinary talents were coerced into the kitchen and the task was completed excellently.  The plate is empty once again.

Grammie’s Box

My talented son-in-law bestowed upon me a handsome rugged toy box that I so dearly needed as a Christmas gift.  Micah’s creative input and suggestions topped off the present as one of my favorites.  It fits perfect, it is deep so the little ones don’t get in it (at least for now) and houses all Grammie’s toys.  Gosh I love it.  The rope handles and ruggedness are the highlights.  Thanks, David and Micah.  You rocked my Christmas.

It’s All Ours

We continued a tradition of having a Skate Day for the family.  We rented the Big Lake Recreation Center and spent Christmas afternoon at the rink.  Paige and Hatcher and I watched from up top.  With little noses pressed to the glass they spotted their  “Daddies” skating fast and hard.  Easton and Brecken have developed into little hockey players while Hinckley flew by happily being pushed in a chair.

Christmas Eve

Our Christmas Eve program:

  1. New Christmas Song introduced by Rhea “Jingle All The Way” by Dan Bremnes.
  2. Kyla and the children performing with hand puppets  “The Friendly Beasts” sung by Garth Brooks.
  3. Tara reading “Sam’s Christmas Wish”, our annual tradition of reading this story.
  4. Family prayer kneeling in our living room.
  5. Opening of Star Gifts.
  6. Kids to bed so Santa can find his way into our home.

Alex’s Train

I have anxiously awaited the time when I could watch the boys see Alex’s train at the Mahoy’s open house.  For the past few months each time I was at Galene’s I would see the progress of the train town being built.  Everything was beautiful, meticulous and breathtakingly put together in a stunning Christmas extravaganza.    We love the Mahoys and their open house.  Blaze and Hatcher say “thanks” for putting sparkle in their eyes.

The Dinosaur Movie

Kyla, Sam, Blaze, Micah, Hinckley and myself all went to the movies.  We went to see movie called The Good Dinosaur.  Loaded with popcorn and candy we were a little uncertain how the little guys would do but they were intrigued and well-behaved through till the end.   Blaze has a passion for the creatures and probably handled the graphic images a little better than I did.
