Gotta Love ‘Em

Being a mother and cherishing all my Mother’s Day gifts from the nursery, Primary and school I wanted to do something cute in preparation for the big day.  We had the kids in the nursery today make puzzle frames in which their 5 X 7 picture will be inserted.  I sat each child on a chair and had them hold up their sign.  Racquel and I chuckled at some of the faces of the children.   Some could have been a little happier and some were way happy.  Only a mother can truly love that face.

Gather

We “gathered” together for our craft day at Galene’s.  It unfortunately began with a mishap as Jill and Mike Lien’s dog Alfred, who Galene was “babysitting” ran outside and got caught in some weeds and briers and broke his shoulder and arm.  While we worked on our “gather” signs, Alex took Alfred to the vet and then into Anchorage to the surgeon.  We tried a new process and made these “gather” signs that we were most proud of.  Great company.  Good food.  Poor dog.  Expensive bill.  Craft day complete.  We “gathered.”

My Heart Jumps

Oh you sweet, little green buds.  I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it is to see you.  Your presence has lifted my soul and I can start to actually think spring and green.  Over the next few weeks I will watch you every day until I see the green hue outside my living room window.  The winter that worn us down for many many months is now replaced with a rebirth, a renewing and the most beautiful color of all, green.  Where have you been the last seven months?

My New Friend Mandee

Two carloads of awesome ladies and peeps drove into Anchorage this evening for a temple night.  Just as we approached the New Seward Highway Jane Breshears called to say that Dave had fallen off some scaffolding and was in the hospital.  That definitely put a damper on our evening as Galene had to drive back with Jane while the rest of us stayed.  The session was nice as well as a late stop at Olive Garden for great food and too much laughter.  What a great bunch of ladies.  (left to right – Mandee, Tara, Shari, Jessica, me and Ariane)

Unit 13 Closed

Progression.  The process of developing or moving gradually towards a more advanced state.  We have progression.  Starting back in February Kyla and I began emptying out Micah and David’s storage unit in Rexburg.  Each month a few more things are sold and the unit gets emptier.  The crib was the last to go and now we have emptiness and progression all at once.  Aaaahhhhhh.

I Should Have Been A Therapist

It was tire change over day for me so after my morning walk I headed over to Diversified Tire, saw Justin Lemoine that used to skate for Houston eons ago and decided after a two hour wait that I would be more functionable just walking to Fred Meyer to do a little shopping.  Deb said she would pick me up and from there we would head to Joanns to look for material.  All was set in stone.  I shopped and sat outside Fred’s on a stack of Adirondack chairs awaiting my pick up when I met Charlie.  For the next ten minutes I heard more than I thought one person could share.  At the end I told him to prioritize his problems and tackle one at a time.  Unbelieavably this was the list:

~save enough money to get your glasses fixed so you can pass an eye test since you are just about legally blind

~get your driver’s license which was suspended four years ago

~ditch the girlfriend that is mentally unstable and draining you.

Yikes, that was just the first three . . . he needed so much help.  Sorry Charlie.

The Fisherman’s Daughter

This is so awesome.  This post is from Kristi and the exciting changes that are happening in Hoonah and to our kids. We love you guys.

“As we walk into season 7 I am so proud to announce that my vision for rebranding our business has finally come to fruition. For all of my supporters out there, I thank you for your dedication to scarfing down my food and for the many times you’ve repeated, “Go to Chipper Fish! It’s the best!” Close friends and family have heard for years about my crazy ideas behind the new brand and now I want to share that with you, my amazing customers.

Chipper Fish is simply evolving. Rebranding is not a change to what you all know and love, but rather a way to better capture everything that it was built on and all that Hoonah is about. The Fisherman’s Daughter is being born from those endless recommendations, from the hard work and obsessive support of my staff, from a dream that our story will someday reach beyond Hoonah and will need a brand and logo that represents our town and way of life.

Thank you for all of your love and support. I’m beyond excited to show you our new menus and get the doors open! Please keep those recommendations flowing!”

Impressions On Our Mind

Elder Richard G. Scott tells us this:  “Father in Heaven knew that you would face challenges and be required to make some decisions that would be beyond your own ability to decide correctly. In His plan of happiness, He included a provision for you to receive help with such challenges and decisions during your mortal life. That assistance will come to you through the Holy Ghost as spiritual guidance. It is a power, beyond your own capability, that a loving Heavenly Father wants you to use consistently for your peace and happiness.”  The impressions on my mind over the years have curtailed a few bad decisions, they have comforted the weak and allowed me to know for a surety that I was prompted to do what was right.

Oh Brad!

When you meet Brad Wilcox, when you talk to Brad Wilcox or listen to his compelling oratories of humor, drama and spirituality you can’t help but love the guy.  He is a goof ball.  He is a giant in his field and he had so much fun with Rhea and her cronies.  He gave them boy advice, he laughed with them and took a fair number of pictures.  Many that were there remembered him from the Encampment four years ago so when we refer to him as “Oh Brad!” I think we all know why.

If I Could Only Be Her

And there she was in living color.  Mary Ellen Edmunds.  This fabulous woman taught me when I as in the MTC when us sisters were a minority and much much smaller group than today.  She taught the sister’s class and I adored her.  Her humor hasn’t changed, her spirituality stronger and still the same old “kick in the pants” as way back then.  Micah, Rhea and I attended Time Out For Women in Anchorage and during the break I spotted her up front and made my way to her.  My mentor.
